Spain secured an emphatic 10-0 win over Tahiti, who were involved in an international competition for the first time in their history.
The Spanish attack was brilliant as the trio of David Villa, Fernando Torres and David Silva put on a sizzling display together.
Torres found the net four times and Barcelona star Villa scored a hat-trick, too. Silva netted a brace, while Chelsea's Juan Mata also got on the scoresheet.
Torres had a wonderful match and showed pace, determination and superb finishing abilities - despite being up against Tahiti, who are the tournament underdogs. He also had time to miss a penalty as his shot hit the bar and deflected away.
This victory, which is Spain's biggest victory in a major international competition, would surely give the reigning world champions enough momentum to go on and add one of the few trophies currently absent from their trophy cabinet.
Also, the performances from Torres and Villa will act as a confidence-booster for them, and give coach Vicente Del Bosque a selection headache for the rest of the tournament.
