According to reports in the Daily Star, Hull City boss Steve Bruce is planning a £6 million move for Gent striker Ilombe Mboyo, after missing out on Burnley forward Charlie Austin.

Bruce, who guided Hull back to the Premier League last season, is seeking a goal-scoring forward to lead his team's survival charge.

Belgian international Mboyo, 26, has impressed during his two-year stint with Gent, and has netted 36 goals in his 77 league appearances for the club, including 21 last season.

The Tigers have already failed with two bids for Austin, the latest of which, was believed to be worth around £4m.

Burnley dismissed both offers, with the Clarets believed to be set on sticking to their £7m asking price for the 28-goal marksman, even though the 23-year-old only has 12 months left on his contract at Turf Moor.

Hull have also been linked with former England striker Carlton Cole, who was recently released by West Ham.

But Cole is set to disappoint Bruce and relegated QPR by signing a megabucks deal with MLS outfit LA Galaxy - forming a potential strike partnership with former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool forward Robbie Keane.

Mboyo is reportedly keen to play in England, and came close to joining Norwich in the January transfer window, but the deal collapsed when personal terms could not be agreed.

Bruce also expects to finalise the £3m capture of Birmingham centre-back Curtis Davies and the £1.8m signing of Scotland keeper Allan McGregor from Turkish side Besiktas by the end of the week.
