We here at GMS to revel in a bit of schadenfreude from time to time, but you really have to feel for Australia back Kurtley Beale, whose profligacy in front of the posts condemned his side to defeat against the British and Irish Lions.

The 24-year-old had two opportunities late on during Saturday's dramatic encounter in Brisbane to secure victory for his side, but spectacularly fluffed both efforts as the Lions triumphed 23-21.

Beale's first failure from 30 metres was inexplicable but, while the second miss was more difficult, it will remain the one that replays in the head Randwich star for the months and years to come.

With seconds ticking down, Beale approached the ball knowing a success would guarantee a win for Australia, but he proceeded to slip as he went for his kick, sending his effort wide of the posts and the Lions to glory.

It was the most epic of penalty fails for the distraught Australian, but he is far from alone when it comes to slipping up at the most vital of moments.
