Chelsea 'keeper returns to Atletico Madrid on-loan
Thibaut Courtois will spend a third consecutive season in Spain as he attempts to force his way into the Chelsea team
Chelsea have confirmed that young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will return to Atletico Madrid on-loan next season.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper has agreed to return to the side that has kept him on-loan for two consecutive seasons, following his inability to break into the Chelsea first-team. Because of this, Courtois is yet to make an appearance for the Blues.
However, he has been successful in Spain, making 74 appearances for Atletico Madrid.
Courtois was also part of the Atletico side that won the Spanish Super Cup this season, beating rivals Real Madrid 2-1.
And Courtois himself expressed that he wished to stay in Spain after becoming a key part of Diego Simeone's side where he has won Europa League and Copa Del Rey titles.
The move was confirmed on Atletico Madrid's official website, as a statement read: "Thibaut Courtois will return to Atletico Madrid next season after an agreement was reached between our club and Chelsea for him to play on-loan for another year."
And after a third place finish in La Liga last season, Courtois will be guaranteed Champions League football next season at Atletico, something that he is pleased about.
Speaking to Atletico's website, Courtois said: "I am very happy because it was what I wanted. I have always said that I wanted to continue at Atletico next season and take part in such an important competition as the Champions League after we qualified for it in such a brilliant way.
"I am only thinking about continuing to enjoy the incredible support that we have and I hope we can continue to bring them a lot of happiness," added Courtois.
