Peruvian football is not normally under the spotlight at GiveMeSport, but this weekend’s clash between Real Garcilaso and Inti Gas something out of the ordinary.

Garcilaso secured a 4-2 win to stay on the pace in the Primera Division title race, but it was the Inti Gas manager, Rolando Chilavert, who became the unlikely star.

The Paraguayan was standing on the sidelines when the home side’s left-back closed down on a loose ball and that was rolling out, when Chilavert made the bizarre decision to stick his leg out.

It was all a bit confused as the Inti Gas players crowded around the referee but it ended with their boss being dismissed.

Chilavert’s inadvisable actions took the headlines but the match also contained some great football and it would be a shame not to acknowledge it.

Three separate brilliant free-kicks were scored in a game that was never far from drama.
