Pep Guardiola says that he is ready for a new challenge at Bayern Munich, after taking a 12-month break from the game since he stepped down as Barcelona manager.
Speaking at a packed press conference, with over 300 journalists in attendance, Guardiola said: “After my sabbatical, I’m ready.
“This is a new challenge for me. I had a wonderful time at Barca but needed a new challenge.
"I chose Bayern Munich because of the players and the club’s history. I always considered them to be one of the world’s biggest clubs.
"It is a gift, a blessing, not just to be here, but also that the club worked so that I can be here."
Guardiola takes over from Jupp Heynckes and admits that the pressure is on him to follow on from his predecessor’s success.
"I have to live with the fact that they have won the treble", the 42-year-old Spaniard added. "There is always pressure on the coach.
“But I am ready for the challenge, regardless of whether they are treble winners."
Bayern were the first German team ever to complete the treble, winning the Bundesliga title as well as the Champions League and the German Cup last season, making Guardiola’s task unenviable.
But the new coach has a treble to his own name, after achieving the same feat with Barcelona in 2009, and is expected to help Bayern continue their dominance in his time at the club.
He has already made a move to sign Mario Gotze off their closest rivals last season, Borussia Dortmund, and Guardiola is expected to make further additions to help improve his squad even more in the near future.
