Valencia are reported to be monitoring the situation of Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, with the Spanish club hoping the ex-Barcelona player will be made available for transfer.

According to Superdeporte, Valencia are ready to offer a Romeu a route out of Stamford Bridge following his return to injury, which left the 21-year-old sidelined for six months of last season.

Romeu's future, along with a number of other Chelsea players, is in doubt after Mourinho's return to west London, with the Portuguese set to speak with each of his charges to detail what the future holds.

Given Mourinho's reported pursuit of a holding midfielder, with the likes of Geoffrey Kondogbia and Sami Khedira supposed targets for Chelsea, Romeu could find himself surplus to requirements come the start of the new season.

Romeu is reported to favour a transfer back to Spain should he leave Chelsea, which would appear to place Valencia very much in the running to sign the player should he be made available by his current employers.

Barcelona, however, retain an option of first refusal on Romeu following his move from the Camp Nou - something that was confirmed by Chelsea following a number of impressive displays from the Spaniard during his first season at the club.

The Spain under-21 international has made only 33 appearances for Chelsea since his transfer from Barcelona in July 2011 following the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as the club's manager.
