Birmingham City midfielder Wade Elliot has signed a new one-year contract extension that will see him stay at St Andrews until the end of 2014.

The right-winger, who can also play in central-midfield, widely impressed last season as Birmingham finished in 12th place in the Championship.

For long spells in the season, the Blues were struggling at the wrong end of the table, but they turned it around in the latter stages of the season, finishing comfortably in mid-table.

And the experienced midfielder made 47 appearances in the season, scoring nine goals in the process, including a header in the 1-0 home victory over Peterborough in September. And, since his arrival from Burnley in 2011, Elliott has made 73 appearances in total for Birmingham.

Elliot was also a key member of the squad that played in the Europa League in the 2011-12 season. He scored the winning goal as Birmingham overcame NK Maribor of Slovenia, beating them 2-1 away from home that sent Birmingham top of their group at the time.

And manager Lee Clark is delighted that Elliott has committed his future to the club. He told Birmingham's official website: "I'm delighted that we have got Wade back. He was a really important member of the team last season."

Clark also highlighted Elliott's importance as a role model to the crop of young players that have come through the Birmingham academy of late.

"He worked very hard for the team and scored some valuable goals. He is a fantastic example to the younger players and I really wanted him to be part of this season so it's great to have him back", Clark added.
