Chelsea monitoring Manchester United stopper

Chelsea are being linked with a summer swoop for Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The Daily Mirror claims Blues boss Jose Mourinho is ready to give youth a chance at Stamford Bridge, with ‘the special one’ set to provide first team opportunities for a string of teenage players.

And, whilst the Portuguese chief has vowed to spend during the transfer window, he’s set his sights on Johnstone as another young player to supplement the Chelsea ranks, with the paper claiming the west London outfit are monitoring the player's progress.

The England U20 international joined Manchester United at academy level, and has gained first team experience away from Old Trafford during three separate loan spells.

Despite not making a single appearance for the Red Devils under old boss Sir Alex Ferguson, new manager David Moyes is unlikely to want to sell to a major rival like Chelsea ahead of the Premier League season.

Johnstone has represented the Three Lions at four different junior levels, and the Manchester United starlet is tipped to have a big future in the game for both club and country.
