Brazilian star Paulinho - who is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup - looks set to join Tottenham after a string of impressive performances in Brazil.

Tottenham have shown the most interest in signing Paulinho and it is looking increasingly likely that he will make the switch from South America before the month is out.

Recent reports have suggested that Corinthians have accepted a £17million bid from Spurs for the 24-year-old, who is now just coming into his prime. Paulinho scored against England in their most recent friendly, drawing 2-2 at the Maracana.

Former Arsenal player, and now director of football at Corinthians, Edu, confirmed rumours that one of his star players would probably be leaving this summer, with North London the most probable destination.

With regards to Paulinho's transfer, Edu told UOL: "The situation is underway.

"We have to agree on some details of the negotiation, so I can't say he will leave yet, but the negotiations are good."

Should Paulinho make the switch to White Hart Lane, a £17million transfer fee would make him Tottenham's all time most expensive signing, for now at least.

But should they sell Gareth Bale, they would certainly have a lot more funds to play with. Yet, at the moment, André Villas-Boas and the Tottenham board are expressing their reluctance to sell Bale at every possible opportunity.
