Liverpool have missed out on Real Madrid starlet target Mario Rodriguez, according to reports.

Spanish paper Marca claims the Reds made an approach for the 16-year-old, but were turned down as the teenager opted to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report goes on to claim that Brendan Rodgers offered double the salary that the youngster will receive in Madrid, but the playmaker decided to stay in his homeland on a four-year deal.

Rodriguez has already represented his country at U17 level, and is regarded as one of the hottest properties in Spain.

But, whilst this Barcelona-born player has opted to stay in his homeland, others have not in recent months. Pleguezuelo and Josimar have both opted for better deals in the Premier League than with Barca, and Sergi Canos has also left the Blaugrana for Liverpool.

Indeed, Rodgers has been busy in the transfer market thus far, bringing Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto to Anfield.

And, whilst Rodriguez will not be joining the trio at Liverpool, it still promises to be an exciting summer of change for the Merseyside giants.
