The MLS is an underdog of modern contemporary football but Is it finally showing signs of evolving?
The answer is vague and intangible in some issues. For now, it is not the most competitive league in the world. In recent times some of the most renowned faces of football have been aiding the American soccer competition to take a few steps upwards, as has happened with David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Obafemi Martins.
A first glimpse on American soccer will most certainly perceived the MLS as an El Dorado for the old men of football, looking for a way to top their pockets with some easily-accessible ‘gold’. At the end of the day it really is like this, but not on all levels.
These players are actually the best there is when expressing opinions regarding malfunctions, flawed managements and even to teach fellow companions better ways to play the game.
Barring this in mind, a glittering horizon draws in the distance. If these relationships are well established in the long run, the MLS might just find good foundations to step-up and deliver.
In the meantime, American fans have an entertaining and rejuvenated sport to watch. LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders, among others, provide unstable displays, namely defensive-wise, but one that is most definitely interesting.
The competition for audience is fierce with NBA, NFL and NASCAR on the top of the list, relegating soccer to the side-lines. These three kings are of almost sacred proportions, but the MLS can still rise to become a relevant league inside the USA.
With room for big improvements and recreation, only time will tell if the Americans have another great competitions to support and cheer for.
