What would a signing such as Gonzalo Higuain mean for Arsenal? Short answer - everything.

Higuain has an incredible record, in both domestic and international football, and he is certainly the type of player the Gunners need to start firing again.

By completing a deal for the Argentine, not only will Arsene Wenger break all of his previous transfer records but, it will show the rest of the Premier League that the north London outfit are still willing to fight and compete for trophies by making these type of marquee signings.

The current Arsenal squad is full of talented players, however, at several times during the season, the Gunners have looked somewhat tired and lacklustre, in fact they only managed to secure fourth spot because of a fantastic run of form towards the end of the season.

The problem that has plagued Arsenal in recent years is the loss of top players and the Gunners have not signed replacements adequate of filling their boots.

Olivier Giroud had a respectable first season for Arsenal but, unfortunately for the Frenchman, he just doesn't have the firepower to push Wenger's team forward - however Higuain does.

The Argentinean international has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid over the last season and has admitted he is looking for an exit.

With 16 goals in 28 games last season, many of Europe's top clubs will be patiently waiting to see how the player's situation develops and Arsenal have become clear favourite to snatch up the striker.
