Fernando Torres' name once installed fear into the hearts of opponents but, in recent time, the Spaniard has had different experiences.

He's shared a patch of grass with names more coveted and more dangerous than his.

What can we say about El Nino that hasn't already been said?

Having, what seems, the entire footballing community against him once he pulls on that blue jersey, it is surely conceivable that a man as humble as Fernando, can buckle under the pressure.

Torres, however, is looking to have the last laugh.

Having popped up with some important goals, (Barcelona/Steau Bucharest/Benfica), he is appearing to wrestle himself out of this slump, and turn his consistency in his favour.

The former Liverpool man netted 23 times in all competitions for Chelsea last season, ensuring he enjoyed his most prosperous year in a blue shirt yet and he even caught the eye of Spain coach, Vincente Del-Bosque.

With the Confederations Cup well under way, and with the World Cup next year, it will be at the forefront of Torres' mind to impress and imprint himself in the national setup.

Spain's successes in recent years means it is by no means easy to be selected for such an impressive side, but we must also not forget, that El Nino has played his part exceptionally.

Scoring in both Euros finals and finishing the 2012 competition as joint Golden Boot winner, he certainly seems awarding of a place in a team making history.

In the Confederations Cup, the triumph continues.

On the back of his successful blues campaign, Torres has shifted five goals in two games, making him the current top scorer. It would then, surely, be considered folly to question the man who's been to the other side and back.

Having seen football for the beautiful game and the ugly nightmare that it is, his future is uncertain, but what we can be sure about, is that he stands on the edge of glory again, and few who do such a thing, can be soundly ignored.
