Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is on the brink of completing a £10m transfer to Liverpool for a reported £10m, according to the Mirror.

The Belgium stopper, who is set to undergo a medical at Melwood, has been linked with the move for the past few weeks - and as the deal looks set to go through, more questions are being asked about the future of Pepe Reina.

The current Liverpool number one has been linked with a move to Barcelona, and with Mignolet's arrival all but confirmed, his exit looks imminent.

Statistics show Reina was responsible for costing his side a massive 14 points last season.

Those extra points would have left Liverpool sitting pretty in the Champions League places.

So the arrival of Mignolet could be seen as an even greater coup than first anticipated.

Goalkeeping errors need to be reduced if the Reds are to challenge for a Champions League spot next campaign.

The Sunderland stopper is a safe pair of hands and would prove to be a worthy successor to fan-favourite Reina.
