Anthony Ogogo is a very promising young boxer who seems set to have a bright future in the sport.
Aged just 24 Ogogo is about to go into his third professional fight.
Ogogo is an extremely popular character with charisma, good looks and boxing talent. He came to prominence at last year's home Olympics when he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division.
For Ogogo to have achieved a bronze medal is incredible considering that he almost pulled out of the games dues to his mother being seriously ill. His mother suffered a brain haemorrhage and was in hospital whilst Ogogo competed.
This shows unbelievable levels of mental strength to be able to carry on and compete despite the troubles of his mother.
Ogogo was just one of the heroes to emerge from the Great Britain Boxing team alongside the likes of Nicola Adams, Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell. It was a fantastic time for the team and these boxers look set to have fantastic careers.
Following the Olympics, Ogogo appeared on the television show Splash with other celebrities.
His appearance on the show further revealed his likeable character and opened himself up to a wider fan base.
It was a very successful decision for Ogogo to raise his profile even more and get a real buzz surrounding him.
Following this, it was announced that Ogogo was to turn professional and would be promoted by Golden Boy, which is probably the biggest promotion company in the world.
The company led by Oscar De La Hoya has huge power to get the big fights and gives Ogogo a fantastic platform to fight both in Britain and America early on in his career.
Ogogo will participate on the undercard of huge bouts giving him exposure to the American audience that can be so lucrative.
Ogogo is making a real name for himself at the moment and with his charming personality and good looks that is set to continue for a long while yet.
Ogogo is very new to the professional game and seems to have a good mentality to the sport realising that it is going to take time to get to the top but he can get there with hard work and determination. He is a head-strong young man who for me looks to be a great prospect.
He currently holds a record of 2-0 in the pro game and has shown his power and boxing ability against limited opponents but he has done all that he can do.
He has good speed and is technically very good meaning that he has great chances of progressing on in the pro game and becoming an elite level fighter one day.
I am very excited about this young man and it is obvious that he has the potential to be a big star as Golden Boy only deal with boxers who are set for the top.
He has the potential to learn from great names and who knows may receive help from a great middleweight in Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins is a partner of Golden Boy and has been quoted as saying that Ogogo will “be a household name.”
If he gets an opportunity to learn from Hopkins then he should jump at the chance because nobody knows more about the sport than the ever-green Hopkins who is simply an icon of the sport.
Hopkins would be able to help Ogogo develop both technically and mentally and would be a valuable mentor.
I am intrigued to see how Ogogo carries on to develop as a professional and see a very exciting future for this vibrant young man.
Ogogo is just another example of the great young boxers that this country is producing!
