Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has said that Thiago Alacantara should leave the Catalans, amid reported interested from Manchester United, if he is not promised first-team football next season.
Thiago has established himself as one of the finest young players in the world, but due Barca’s wealth of talent in midfield he has found his chances limited at the Nou Camp and United are ready to cash-in on the €18m release clause in his contract.
In light of this Dutch legend Cruyff suggests that he should seriously consider a move away from Catalonia, if he is not promised more action next season.
“If he really has little chance to play, then he has to go," Cruyff said in an interview with Marca.
“People can think what they want but Barcelona are not doing this purposefully.
“At this point comes the philosophy of the club - you should assign, sell and invest in a player and do it as what you think is right.”
Thiago enhanced his burgeoning reputation further at the European U21 Championships, where he played a staring role in Spain’s success with a style and technical ability that belied his young-years.
And the 22-year-old is thought to be very close to a move to United already so Cruyff’s words will do little to help ease the controversy he caused by saying that Lionel Messi could also be sold following the arrival of Neymar at the club.
