Force India have said that they will not stop Paul Di Resta leaving to join a bigger name team if the opportunity should arise.

The Scottish driver has scored 34 points so far this season and currently lies in eighth position in the driver’s championship standings.

This has led to his stock rising and it is thought that a big team may try to sign Di Resta in the near future.

Speaking on a potential move for Force India’s star-man, their deputy-team principal Bob Fernley said: "Paul is contracted to us anyway for next season, so the question is whether somebody else comes in, so it won't be our decision.

"Whether Paul has to be released, or whatever, that can only come from him.

"But we wouldn't stand in his way. That's not our policy. If a driver feels he is better somewhere else, what would be the point in keeping him?

"We proved that at the end of last year with Nico Hulkenberg.”

Hulkenberg, though, has struggled since joining Sauber and Fernley has warned Di Resta that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

"Maybe Nico is asking a few questions himself today, although last year it didn't look such a bad option,” said Fernley.
