Manchester City remain keen on Real Madrid defender Pepe, according to reports.
The Times claims the Citizens are set to focus their efforts on signing a centre back this summer, with the Portuguese star still on their transfer radar.
New manager Manuel Pellegrini was linked with a move for the 30-year-old at the start of the month – before he’d even taken charge at the Etihad Stadium – with the Daily Mirror reporting that Pepe will cost £20million.
And, despite the being contracted to Los Blancos until 2016, the report in The Times suggests that City will continue their chase as Juventus take an interest in full-back Aleksandar Kolarov. The Italian giants are also close to completing a deal for Carlos Tevez.
Last season, former manager Roberto Mancini favoured Vincent Kompany and Mateja Nastasic as his central defensive pairing, with England international Joleon Lescott often the one to miss out.
The arrival of Pepe would add further competition at the heart of the Manchester City defence, and give Pellegrini several options at the back ahead of the new Premier League season.
