Marco van Ginkel's agent has played down reports suggesting his player has had "positive talks" with Chelsea regarding a summer transfer, according to the London Evening Standard.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked with the Netherlands under-21 international.

And recent reports claimed Van Ginkel's agent, Karel Jansen, had held encouraging talks with new Blues boss Jose Mourinho. But Jansen has denied a breakthrough in negotiations.

"Nothing is sure," Jansen was reported as saying by the Evening Standard. "There is interest but it is not the time for all parties to say something about it.

"A lot of things are being said and written and it's a bit chaotic. From our side we are just keeping quiet and we will see what happens."

The report claims Chelsea had an £8m bid for the 2013 Dutch Talent of the Year rejected earlier this summer, with Vitesse holding out for £15m.

The 20-year-old was earmarked as Chelsea's second summer signing after the club announced the capture of 22-year-old Germany international Andre Schurrle on Tuesday.

But it seems the two parties are still some way short of reaching an agreement. That could open the door for Manchester United, who reportedly scouted the midfielder - along with his partner Kevin Strootman - at the European under-21 Championships in Israel.

The Dutch side reached the semi-finals before they were eliminated by eventual runners-up Italy.
