Barcelona have given up hope of persuading Thiago Alcantara to stay put this summer, paving the way for the 22-year-old to complete a move to Manchester United.
The Barcelona man is currently on holiday following his exploits in helping Spain win the U21 European Championship, and is expected to make a decision over his future upon his return.
Manchester United are keen on sealing a deal for the talented playmaker, with rumours gathering place that he could be on his way to Old Trafford.
Barcelona had reportedly been confident of not losing him through the €18 million release clause in his contract by offering him an improved deal and the promise of more first team action.
However Marca now claim that Barcelona have admitted defeat in their attempts to keep him from the clutches of Manchester United.
The Red Devils are believed to have offered him £120,000-per-week to move to Old Trafford, and want to finalise the move before they depart for their pre-season tour of Asia in two weeks time.
