The 2013 Irish Open begins tomorrow and is poised to be a spectacular festival of golf, as the Carton House Golf Club welcomes a host of world stars to County Kildare.
Four Irish Major Champions will take to the field at Carlton House - Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy - who have won seven major titles between them in the past six years.
As much as the fans would love to see one of them win the trophy on Sunday evening, the players would be even more eager to do well, considering that the third major of the season is not too far away.
Also competing is Raphael Jacquelin who has three European Tour wins to his name, he will be looking to add another as he comes up against fellow Frenchmen Alexander Levy and Gregory Havret.
Havret has three European Tour wins while Levy is still searching for his first after turning professional in 2010. All three are considered as potential contenders to clinch their first Irish Open win this week.
Shane Lowry will also be taking part as well as a host of Tour winners and Ryder Cup stars plus 2014 captain Paul McGinley. Collectively, there are 79 European Tour winners in the stellar line-up, which includes the defending champion Jamie Donaldson of Wales.
It is a superb platform for the event’s return to the Republic of Ireland after a visit to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland last year.
