Kevin Pietersen all smiles on England return

.

Kevin Pietersen could not contain his delight at his return to the international fold, with the England batsman posting an image of himself on Instagram back in the dressing room with his compatriots again.

The 32-year-old has been out of the England set-up since his tour of New Zealand was curtailed by a serious knee injury in March, with Pietersen forced to miss the return series, as well as the Champions Trophy.

Pietersen made his comeback to competitive cricket for Surrey last week, with the former England captain displaying no signs of being hindered by the bone bruising which he had described as worse than a broken leg.

He spent 136 overs in the field against Yorkshire at Headingley, even bowling four overs of off-spin, before crashing a superb unbeaten 177 in his first innings since being forced to leave the tour of New Zealand early.

Pietersen's return to form and fitness saw him named in England's squad for the two T20 internationals with New Zealand this week, although he was never in contention to play in Tuesday's narrow defeat.

He is, however, expected to feature on Thursday evening at The Oval, before making his return to the longer-format in the pre-Ashes warm-up with Essex, which begins at Chelmsford this weekend.

Pietersen's commitments with England mean he is unavailable for Surrey's domestic T20 opener with Hampshire, but he took to Twitter to offer his support to his county colleagues.

He said: "@surreycricket start their T20 campaign this eve.. Good luck lads! Will be watching."
