Conference Premier side Macclesfield are offering anyone with £20,000 the opportunity to play 10 minutes of a league or cup game next season.

The financially stricken club need to raise £100,000 by the end of August to remain a professional team, and they've devised this "unique" promotion to raise money to put towards the survival fund.

The winning bidder will be registered with the FA, and brought on as a substitute to play at least 10 minutes of a league or cup match, according to the Macclesfield Express.

The club's rules mandate that only one person can win the prize, and they must be a physically fit male between 18 and 35 years old.

As well as FA registration, the £20,000 winner will be given a squad number, a home and away Macclesfield kit, a training kit, and one week's training with the first-team squad.

They'll also have a place in the official team photo, and receive all the same perks of being a professional player as the rest of the team.

Acting associate director at Macclesfield Andy Scott said: "John Askey [the manager] and the management have bought into the situation and it's a wonderful opportunity for someone to become a professional footballer for a week.

"As far as we know it has never been done before so it is a unique moment in English football.

"If we are 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go that would be a good opportunity for John to utilise the situation. There's absolutely no way we would do it unless it was the right moment in the right game."

Ideally, the club wants applications from regular amateur players or ex-professionals.
