Liverpool transfer target Diego Capel could choose Atletico Madrid over the Premier League side, after admitting that a move to Spain could "appeal" to him.
The Sporting Lisbon winger has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in the Portuguese press this summer, with Liverpool being strongly linked with a move for Capel.
But Capel has since admitted that a move to play in his native Spain could be the move for him.
Atletico Madrid are looking for a player to fill the gap left by former striker Radamel Falcao, who left to join mega-rich AS Monaco earlier this month. And both Atletico and capel could be interested in making the move happen, despite Liverpool's interest in the winger.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Capel has admitted that he is proud to be linked with big clubs like Atletico Madrid, and that it shows he is progressing in his career.
"I am very proud to be linked with big clubs like Atletico Madrid. One always wants to keep progressing and that is a great club. I do not know what will happen in the future but any player would like to play there," Capel said.
Capel has been a key player for Sporting since his move from Sevilla in 2011, and has made over 50 appearances for the Portuguese club since his move from Spain. And the form he has shown for Leonardo Jardim's side has meant that there has been increased transfer speculation regarding his future.
And Liverpool will continue to fight to sign Capel, despite Atletico Madrid's interest in the winger.
