Chelsea: The demise of Fernando Torres

Published 6 Comments

We all know about Fernando Torres' big money move from Liverpool to Chelsea thanks to funding from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Since this £50million investment was made for one of the Premier League's most illustrious strikers, the Spaniard's performances have taken a turn for the worst, at least they have for Chelsea.

Despite a few mediocre seasons with the London outfit, Torres continues to shine for his country.

After picking up the Golden Boot at the Euros in 2012, many believed that Torres was returning to the form that he showed at Liverpool, but we have still failed to see the 29-year-old produce this magic in a blue shirt.

With some key performances in the Champions League aside, Torres has struggled to achieve the greatness expected of him at Chelsea but has somehow remained a favourite for the Spanish international team.

During his last two games with his international teammates in the Confederations Cup, Torres has managed to net five goals.

For his club, he appeared to have a somewhat successful season as he scored 22 goals.

However, these statistics do not reflect his form over the 12/13 season. He may have scored 22 goals, but only eight of them came in the Premier League over the course of 2,572 minutes on the pitch, meaning he averaged just one goal every 322 minutes.

Surprisingly enough, the goals tally isn't his biggest problem at club level, it is his inconsistency, and this has been something that has affected his career since he joined Chelsea.

When you take a look at the bigger picture, is it really form that has alluded the Spaniard or can he just not fit into Chelsea' system and stele of play?
