Under-20 World Cup: Group D round-up
Greece & Paraguay are level-pegging at the top of the table, while Mali are close behind
With the U20 World Cup in Turkey well underway, it's time to take a look at the standings before the last round of the group stage.
Here we take a look at the situation in Group D:
Greece are in a great position to qualify for the last 16 after beating Mexico 2-1 with a late winner in the first round and taking part in the only goalless draw of the tournament in the second round against Mali.
With four points, Greece are top of the table along with Paraguay, their third-round rivals.
After a 1-1 draw with Mali, Paraguay managed to beat Mexico 1-0 and are now level on points with Greece, goal difference and goals scored.
Luckily, the joint leaders of Group D are due to play in the third round of the group stage to break the deadlock.
Mali are hot on the heels of the joint leaders, and after two draws they will be looking for their first win of the tournament against Mexico in an attempt to leapfrog one of the top two teams.
Mexico seem to be out of the competition. Their only hope of qualifying for the last 16 is to beat Mali and pray the third-placed teams from the other groups have disastrous matches.
However, out of all the teams in Group D, Mexico is the least likely to qualify for the next round via a third-place finish.
Four of the best third-placed teams will go through, unfortunately for Mexico, there are a lot of teams with a better chance of getting in.
