Steven Gerrard says that Liverpool’s new signings can help them breach the gap to the top four and break into the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers has been one of the busiest out of all the managers in the Premier League during the transfer window so far, bringing in Kolo Toure, Luis Alerto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet.

With more transfers reportedly in the pipeline, Gerrard is already very excited about the new season and can’t wait for the Premier League season to start back up again.

He told Foxsport.com:  "I'm really looking forward to getting started, especially with the news of us making a few signings.

"It's always important to get faces in as soon as possible; they can get a full pre-season under their belt, get to know the lads and how the manager wants to play.

"There are some exciting names in there so everyone is excited

"I am really looking forward to getting back to work next week and seeing what the new players have got to offer and see if they can help strengthen our squad to put in a better fight for a top-four finish."

Gerrard, however, does admit that he doesn’t know too much about the new signings having only seen brief clips of them playing for their former clubs.

"I know very little about them, but I have a lot belief and confidence in Brendan and the scouting department that they are going to make the right decisions and I have seen bits and bobs of the new signings we have made,” the Liverpool captain said.

The Reds start their season with a home game against Stoke City on August 17th before they face Aston Villa at Villa Park.
