Under-20 World Cup: Group F round-up
Uzbekistan, Croatia & Uruguay are all fighting it out for a place in the last 16 of the Under-20 World Cup
With the U20 World Cup in Turkey well underway, it's time to take a look at the standings before the last round of matches in the group stage.
Here we take a look at the situation in group F:
After a convincing win over New Zealand (3-0) and a draw against Croatia (1-1), Uzbekistan find themselves in first place in the group, on goal difference. In the third round of the group stage matches they will play against Uruguay, needing only a point to secure one of the top two spots.
In the first round of matches, Croatia managed to secure all three points against Uruguay and later added another point to that total after drawing with Uzbekistan. They find themselves in second place, with a great chance of making it into the last 16. They play New Zealand in the third round of games and need only a draw to progress to the next stage.
Uruguay lost to Croatia in the first round however, they managed to bounce-back and secure a routine victory over New Zealand, keeping them in touching distance of the top two spots. In the third round of matches they play group-leaders Uzbekistan. A win would certainly earn them a spot in the last 16, however, a negative result could still keep them in the competition - seeing as the top four third-placed teams will all be going through.
The underdogs have only a slim chance of getting a spot in the last 16, and that’s only if they win their next game against Croatia and hope that they can go through as one of the best third placed teams.
