Jorge Lorenzo posted the fastest time at the opening MotoGP practice session in Assen in Holland ahead of the Dutch TT.

His fastest lap time of1’35.263 leaves him at the front of the leaderboard after the first practice session.

The reigning world-champion could have been further clear too if it wasn’t for Cal Cruthlow, who managed to cut his lead by over a third of a second with his final lap of 1’35.613, which fired him into second place in the leaderboard.

With rain expected to fall over the weekend, the first day's qualifying times become more important as it is likely they will be quicker than tomorrow’s times if the weather does as expected.

Marc Marquez makes up the rest of the top three after he posted a time of 1’35.883, whilst super-star Valentino Rossi is in fourth after a time of 1’35.958.

British rider Bradley Smith could only manage a 1’37.002 lap, leaving him in 10th position.
