Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their chase for Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
According to talkSPORT, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Bias was keen on taking the Colombian striker to White Hart Lane this summer.
However, it now looks as if any chances Tottenham had of signing the prolific goalscorer are receding, as Martinez’s agent has confirmed talks with Porto over an improved deal will begin next week.
Tottenham are trying to enhance the squad for another attempt at qualifying for the Champions League after missing out by a small margin to local rivals Arsenal for a second season running.
One of the Villas-Boas reportedly wants to improve is the centre-forward position, with both Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor unable to put in consistent performances.
Martinez was one of those mentioned as possible options but Spurs will likely have to look elsewhere, if Luis Manuel Manso’s words are anything to go by.
"I think next week it will happen,” he is quoted as saying to Portuguese radio.
"The matter relates to Porto. If there is anything else we will inform you but our priority is to continue at the club."
