Oxford United sign Dave Kitson
Ex-Reading star Dave Kitson has signed a two-year deal at Oxford United
Oxford United have signed centre-forward Dave Kitson on a two-year deal.
The striker, 33, moves to the Kassam Stadium after spending last season with Sheffield United.
The former Reading man expressed his delight at joining a promotion chasing side and feels Oxford are the perfect team to go up next season.
“Oxford is the only League Two club that I considered because at this stage in my career I am looking to be part of a successful promotion campaign,” Kitson told the club website.“I had a number of clubs interested but the ambition and the set-up here at Oxford is excellent and there is a buzz about the club at the moment.
"It is a good club with a good manager and a very good squad.”
Kitson missed out on promotion last season after seeing Sheffield United beaten in the League One play-off semi final against Yeovil.
He has a wealth of experience in the football league - having played for a number of clubs including Portsmouth, Reading and Stoke City.
On signing Kitson, Oxford boss Chris Wilder expressed his delight at bringing the striker in, as he stated: "Dave has a proven stature and has scored goals at the top level. He is very experienced and he makes goals for other people too.
"He is extremely fit, with the same hunger to do well and will be a positive influence in the dressing room, especially with the younger players."
Oxford begin their League Two campaign away at Portsmouth on August 3.
