Potential Premier League reinforcements (6)

Published 14 Comments

Arsenal | Forward

Current options - Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott

Possible signings - Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic

Arsenal have a few concerns - defensive midfield being one. But a Cazorla-Arteta-Wilshere triumvirate matches up well against any other three in the Premier League. That could conceivably be a title-winning three.

Up front the situation is more pressing. Is Olivier Giroud a Golden Boot contender (and that's what you need to win)? After 12 months, I'm not convinced. Theo Walcott wants the role, but Arsene Wenger plainly doesn't trust him there, while Lukas Podolski can't stay on the field for 90 minutes, and plays on the left anyway.

Now, Gonzalo Higuain - that's a bona-fide contender. Put the Argentine atop the Arsenal attack and it's an immediate, and obvious, upgrade.

Add Etienne Capoue as a defensive midfielder? Not the same impact.
