Dutch star wants first-team guarantee to join Chelsea

Published 7 Comments

Chelsea transfer target Marco van Ginkel wants assurances over his first-chances at Stamford Bridge as he looks to seal a place in next summer's Dutch World Cup squad, according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old midfielder had been expected to complete a £9m move to Chelsea before the team meets for pre-season next month.

But the report claims a move has stalled over van Ginkel's fears he will be destined for a bit-part role at the club next season.

Jose Mourinho had identified the Netherlands under-21 star as one of his transfer priorities this summer.

And having completed the £18m capture of Germany international Andre Schurrle earlier this month, the Blues were thought to be closing in on van Ginkel.

But the Vitesse midfielder wants a guarantee from Mourinho that he will be an important first-team member of the squad should he move to the 2012 European Champions.

The youngster feels he has a strong chance of breaking into the Dutch national team for next summer's World Cup after his breakout season in the Eredivisie last term.

The 20-year-old was named Dutch Talent of the Year in his home country.

But he fears a campaign on the Chelsea bench would end his dream of playing for his country in Brazil in 12 months time.

The Stamford Bridge club have Frank Lampard, Ramires, Oriol Romeu and John Obi Mikel as midfield options. But Chelsea are reportedly still confident of sealing a move for van Ginkel by persuading him of his role next season.
