Crystal Palace have reportedly agreed a fee for Peterborough United's coveted 22-year-old striker Dwight Gayle, according to talkSPORT.

Fulham were among a host of clubs linked with Gayle, who only signed for Peterborough in January having initially arrived on a loan deal in November.

However, it appears that the newly-promoted Eagles have won the race for his signature, as he was seen at the club's training ground on Thursday.

The fee agreed for the former Dagenham and Redbridge man, who was on loan at non-league Bishop's Stortford just a year ago, is believed to be in the region of £3million.

Gayle caught the eye of many scouts last season with his impressive goal tally of 13 goals in 29 games for struggling Peterborough - who only missed out on Championship safety on the final day of the season after losing to Palace.

His most impressive performance was against Blackburn Rovers, where he bagged an impressive hat-trick. His pace, movement and work ethic caused havoc for a plethora of Championship defences last term.

Gayle will be a huge loss for the Posh, whose director of football Barry Fry had previously stated that the club would do everything possible to keep hold of Gayle.

However, he did admit that it would be difficult to reject overtures from Premier League sides and it appears Palace have won the race to sign the impressive forward.
