Chelsea are ready to swoop ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City to sign Robert Lewandowski – if they can’t di a deal for Edinson Cavani.
According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho has the Napoli forward at the top if his list of summer transfer targets, but there are currently obstacles holding up a deal.
Now the Stamford Bridge boss has told billionaire owner Roman Abramovich he wants to go big to sign Lewandowski if Cavani’s signing proves elusive.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City are reported to be interested in Lewandowski and will not welcome further interest from Chelsea.
The report claims the blues are ready to rival both Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium with a £170,000-a-week contract offer to the 24-year-old striker.
However, Mourinho’s main target is still Cavani, though Abramovich is unwilling to acquiesce to Napoli’s demand that any suitor must meet his £53million release clause.
There is also the Uruguay international’s desire to join Real Madrid to contend with; Cavani desires a move to Santiago Bernabeu over west London.
Meanwhile the report claims Lewandowski had his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich but Dortmund are refusing to do any further business with their rivals after the Bavarians met the buyout clause of star man Mario Götze earlier this year.
Lewandowski is in the final year of his contract, however, and the Premier League clubs are hoping to exploit BVB’s desire not to lose their star striker for free next summer, only to see him join Bayern anyway.
