Colchester United have won the race to sign former Arsenal winger Sanchez Watt, who was released by Arsene Wenger at the end of last season.
The English winger struggled to make an impression at Arsenal following the signing of his professional contract in 2009. He failed to make an appearance for the Arsenal first-team, and spent the majority of his time on-loan at Football League clubs during his stay in London.
Watt has had loan spells at Southend United, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Crawley Town and Colchester United during his time at Arsenal, where at these clubs he failed to make an impression on manager Arsene Wenger.
During his time at Leeds United between 2010/11, Arsene Wenger even permitted the winger to play against his Arsenal side in a Carling Cup game, where the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners.
Watt knows Colchester well, having spent three months on loan there last season, but he spent only five weeks playing at the Colchester Community Stadium because of an injury that saw him return to Arsenal early. But he made a positive impression on the U's fans, scoring twice during seven appearances.
And U's boss Joe Dunne has done well to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis because the winger was being chased by a number of Football League clubs.
Watt follows former Arsenal team-mate Craig Eastmond to Colchester after he made the move to League One earlier this summer.
