Defending Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has tipped British tennis star Laura Robson to become a top player in the women's game.
Williams, now 31, told the London Evening Standard how she was impressed with the 19-year-old - and that she expects her to be a big hit in the years to come.
“Laura’s a great person, first of all," Williams commented. "I think that starts a really good career. She has an unbelievable game and she is so powerful. She’s really positive and just so good.
“I think those are the qualities you need to be a top player and she definitely has them all.”
These comments will certainly excite British fans, who have suffered another disappointing week, seeing eight of the 10 home players fail to win their opening matches.
But Robson, ranked at 38 in the world, showed her potential in emphatic style with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over tenth seed Maria Kirilenko in her first-round match.
She is currently playing Colombian qualifier Mariana Duque-Marino for a place in the third round.
