Floyd Mayweather and Saul Alvarez don't get the chance to square off for another two months, in what is being billed as the biggest fight of the year, yet tickets for the fight sold out in less than 24 hours of them going on sale.
On September 14, eyes all over the world will be on the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Whether you're watching on Pay Per View or lucky enough to have secured a ticket in the brief window they were available, it's sure to be a great and highly entertaining bout.
Having broken the all-time live gate record for a boxing event after selling out on Wednesday, Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com that the fight will generate a minimum of $18,647,000 in ticket sales.
"It could go up to a little shy of $19 million depending on the number of comps that are given out. It's going to be the record. The MGM is calculating and has to do the ticket settlement, but it will definitely be the record." He said.
Mayweather's fights have always generated a lot of attention from all over the world but this one has taken it to the next level.
The five-division titlist said: "This sell out doesn't surprise me because this is what happens when the best fights the best. I want to thank all the fans for their support. They're going to see a hell of a show on September 14."
