Sunderland are in advanced talks with Arsenal regarding the move for the Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone, reports SkySports

It is believed that the player fancies working with fellow Italian Paolo Di Canio at Wearside and a deal is in the pipeline.

Sunderland are on the lookout for a new goalkeepers to protect the posts after the departure of Simon Mignolet to Liverpool.

Italian Di Canio, is in the middle of reshaping his squad and it is believed that he will try to convince his fellow countryman to sign on the dotted lines.

The 25-year-old custodian has made just 15 appearances for Arsenal so far in his career.

His eight years at the club also included loan spells at Barnsley and Hull City.

Even though he has very limited experience in Premier League, Sunderland want him on board to provide competition for places.

Mannone was the third choice in Arsenal’s goalkeeping pecking order behind Wojociech Szczesny and Lukas Fabianski.

He played few matches last season due to a succession of injuries. However, he did produce two cleansheets against Stoke City and Liverpool.

He also enjoyed a good game against Manchester City and many believe that he has the potential to succeed in Premier League.
