Italy star scores classic Paneka penalty v Spain

Published 3 Comments

Italy playmaker Antonio Candreva showed he certainly doesn’t lack bottle during a Confederations Cup penalty shootout last night.

The Lazio attacking midfielder stepped-up to take the first spot kick for his country following Italy’s 0-0 draw against Spain, and certainly didn’t let anyone down with his cheeky chip.

Indeed, the ‘Paneka penalty’ left Spanish stopper Iker Casillas flat on the floor, and the Azzurri dugout in raptures on the side of the pitch.

His effort was reminiscent of Andrea Pirlo’s effort against England at Euro 2012, when the bearded wizard left Joe Hart flailing and sent the Three Lions packing.

Such glory wasn’t to follow after Candreva’s effort however, as Italy crashed out 7-6 following Leonardo Bonucci’s miss in sudden death.

Forget that though, watch the video of the brilliant goal below, and let us know the best finish you’ve seen from 12-yards…
