Rio Ferdinand backs Spain to beat Brazil
Rio Ferdinand believes Spain will have just enough to beat Neymar & Brazil in the Confederations Cup final
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Spain will have too much for Neymar and Brazil in the Confederations Cup final.
The world champions take on the hosts in the tournament final on Sunday night and many have tipped new Barcelona signing Neymar to inspire Brazil to victory.
However, Ferdinand is of the opinion that Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres will come out on top.
"Spain to beat Brazil 2-1 #RiosWeekendPredictions #Confeds,” he told his official Facebook page.
Spain are favourites going into the match but conditions could prove to have an effect on them, as the humidity at the Maracana is expected to be high.
The European champions needed penalties to beat Italy in the semi-final and were fortunate not to concede in the 0-0 draw.
Vicente del Bosque’s side were unusually subdued in the match and many felt that the humid conditions were behind an under par performance.
Brazil’s players will be more used to the conditions in Rio de Janeiro and will be looking for any advantage they can get as they have not looked entirely convincing in their route to the final.
A hard fought 2-1 win over Uruguay in the semi-finals did not produce any great performances, but the stage is set for Neymar to lead the hosts of next year’s World Cup to a famous win over the favourites and many of his new teammates.
