Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in Edinson Cavani at one time or another – Confederations Cup fans got a little taste of why.

Uruguay took on Italy in the competition’s third-place playoff and Cavani was on hand to wow the crowd, as well as save his side twice after twice going behind.

The Napoli forward slotted home just before the hour to cancel out Davide Astori’s first half opener, but it was his second goal that really got the audience off their feet.

Nearly 30 yards out and to the left of the middle of the area, Cavani stepped up and curled a free-kick past the despairing dive of Gianluigi Buffon in the Italy goal.

It was enough to level the scores at 2-2 and take the game into extra time, but Cavani could not stop his side from eventually losing 3-2 on penalties.

Uruguay’s second equaliser was needed because of another brilliant free-kick – this time from former West Ham United midfielder Alessandro Diamanti.
