Swansea City have announced that Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman will return to the club on a season-long loan for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a great season with the Swans, becoming a top performer for Michael Laudrup's side. He made 45 appearances for the Welsh club and scored a total of eight goals in all competitions.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told the official Swansea website: "Everyone is happy the loan is continuing. Then Jonathan will review his long-term future next summer."

De Guzman spoke last week about his enjoyment during his first year with the Welsh side.

"I had a great year at Swansea," he commented. "The people around the club and the fans treated me well.

"We played well in a lot of games. We played good football and it's refreshing playing in a team that has a good football mind."

The Netherlands international will be hoping he can continue to help Swansea improve as an established Premier League side.
