NBA all-star Dwight Howard is set to announce his free agency decision on July 10th, according to reports on NBA.com.
The LA Lakers centre is the biggest name available this summer, with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks among the franchises eager to land the 27-year-old for nothing.
Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak hasn’t given up on the number one pick from the 2004 draft however, with USA Today reporting that the 2010 champions have held two ‘sneak meetings’ with the player in recent days.
The Rockets had been granted the first formal meeting with the player in LA, with Clyde Drexler, Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming all involved in the process of attempting to woo Howard to Texas.
Howard, described as ‘the most coveted unrestricted free agent in NBA history by Dwain Price of the Star-Telegram, is also being courted by the Golden State Warriors.
The former Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy High School student was drafted to the Orlando Magic in ’04, turning down several college offers to move to Florida. Eight-years later, he made California his new home.
A seven-time consecutive all-star selection since 2007, Howard has America gripped as he considers his options.
