Former British boxing champion Lennox Lewis has backed David Price to avenge his loss to American Tony Thompson next month and move to within reach of a world title shot.
Lewis has been helping the Mancunian prepare for his rematch against veteran Thompson, who stunned the home fans at the Liverpool Echo Arena after knocking out Price in just the second round of their February fight.
That was the first defeat of an almost perfect career for Price, and the 29-year-old will be seeking revenge when their July 6 bout comes around. Lewis believes his pupil is making quick progress in his bid to improve and successfully avenge the loss.
"David is not that far away from a world title fight but you have to develop," Lewis told ESPN.
"He has made a wise move looking for more stuff to learn and the opportunity is with me.
"As a past heavyweight champion I know a lot of things he needs to do and working with me has upped his game a lot more."
Price has admitted to having learned a lot from Lewis and is confident of his chances of putting himself in the frame for a title shot.
"I'm confident that come Saturday week, I will climb back on that horse and put myself right back into the heavyweight title mix," Price said.
"It's been a breath of fresh air working with him."
