Paulinho’s imminent departure from Corinthians points all eyes towards Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are on the verge of making a sensational signing, unless a last minute hijack from any of the money bags.
Corinthians' box-to-box midfielder has been one of the stars in Brazil’s march to Confederation Cup glory.
His athleticism, hard work, vision and goal scoring abilities were on display at the international stage in last few days. The 24-year-old is undoubtedly the second best Brazilian after Neymar. Overall, Spurs are about to land a gem to their ranks.
What impact is expected from Paulinho at White Hart Lane?
Tottenham currently plays a 4-2-3-1 with Sandro-Dembele being the first choice midfield pair.
Is Paulinho lined up as a substitute?
Andre Villas-Boas might take time to Introduce him to English football, like he did with Hugo Lloris. But he is surely going to break into Spurs first team.
An injury to Sandro showed how ineffective Spurs' midfield became in his absence. Paulinho's arrival is expected to solve the problem as he is strong defensively while maintaining an attacking threat - something which Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone have failed to do at Spurs so far.
With Paulinho's arrival, Spurs will have a trio of midfielders to set the pace in midfield.
How will AVB accommodate all of them in his starting line up. Will he push Dembele further up field, with Paulinho along with Sandro. It wont be the case in general, but AVB, being the shrewd tactician, might opt for this against some oppositions.
So a formation change will be possible to accommodate all the three from start. AVB achieved fame and glory in Porto with his 4-3-3 formation. In Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho; he will have the ideal options to exercise this tactic in the Premier League. All the three are hard working midfielder suitable to AVB's high intensity pressing. All of them are defensively strong and are good while going forward. A flexible interchangeable midfield trio will be present to support Gareth Bale and co in attack.
Paulinho's knack of scoring goals will be vital in a three man midfield. His ability to time his runs to perfection and to score goals are expected to reap benefits in the favourite formation of Spurs tactician.
With Sandro shielding the defence, Dembele and Paulinho will be free to play the box-to-box roles to take turns to invade opposition territory.
The lack of a genuine playmaker might be a question mark, but all the three are wonderful team players to more than make up for it. If needed Villas-Boas can rely on the services of Lewis Holtby or Tom Carroll to dictate things as well.
It's all set for a tactical change at White Hart Lane with the arrival of Paulinho. Can he take them to further heights with excellent displays?
