Arsenal are reportedly in the running to sign Manchester City defender Micah Richards as speculation grows over the future of Bacary Sagna, according to the Daily Mirror.

Richards made just seven appearances for City last campaign and even though he has two years left on his contact, the defender may look elsewhere as he aims to secure more playing time.

Arsenal are monitoring the situation with Sagna set to depart from the club.

Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain are both interested in acquiring the 30-year-old, who has one year left on his current deal.

The Gunners face competition in securing Richards' signature following heavy interest from Italian giants Inter Milan and Roma.

It is understood the 25-year-old would cost around £12million and with Arsenal having vast transfer funds available a deal could be arranged with City.

The England international will want to be assured of first-team football before deciding whether to sign a new contract at Manchester City or leave the Etihad Stadium for a new challenge.

Richards will be looking to impress this season as he looks to build on his 13 England caps.
