Swansea City close in on Lyon striker
Swansea City transfer news: Bafetimbi Gomis moves a step closer to joining Michael Laudrup's side
Swansea City appear to have beaten Cardiff City in the race for France striker Bafetimbi Gomis, according to SkySports.
The striker fell out of favour at Lyon and the French team are reportedly looking to sell him for the right price.
Ukranian outfit Shakthar Donstek were readying a bid for the Lyon frontman who scored 16 goals last season, however Gomis doesn't fancy moving to Ukraine at this stage of his career and was waiting for more appealing offers.
Gomis, 27, has many years ahead of him and a move to Swansea would allow him to showcase his talent on the big stage.
The powerful striker will be hoping to worm his way into the French national team, and an opportunity could come his way as they are currently lacking a genuine goalscoring forward to challenge Karim Benzema.
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that the club are in talks with Swansea regarding Gomis' move to the Welsh team.
He even said that their offer was superior to what Gomis earns in France.
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup will have a tough task on his hands as the player's behavioural problems are said to be behind his Lyon exit.
An in-form Gomis can be a good addition to the Premier League side and the Swans will be hoping to conclude the deal before a rival pounces on their target.
