Brendan Rogers has been a very busy man in the past weeks, bringing in signings left right and centre; signings desperately needed by Liverpool if they are to call the top four home this season.
While Rogers has been making various signings, one in particular has brought options and depth to the Liverpool squad: the signing of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Mignolet was acquired last week and instantly opinions were formed by Reds' fans every where. These are opinions on who will take the spot as Rogers' starting goalkeeper this year.
Of course Liverpool already have a prized keeper in Pepe Reina, an experienced player who has been with the club long enough to build a home in the heart of Merseyside fanatics everywhere.
But the signing of Mignolet has sparked quite a discussion, and it's easy to see why. Either man could be the one for the job, as they are both players envied by many teams in Europe. There are various reasons why either keeper might be in line for the spot.
The 24-year-old Mignolet provides youth with some experience, cat-like reflexes, and great awareness. Yet Reina has a wealth of knowledge and experience. The 30-year-old has competed for a spot in the Spanish national team and has claimed the posts at Anfield for many seasons now. Either keeper is clearly qualified for the job, but who will Rogers choose?
The choice is left down to the manager; while it is easy to believe that Rogers wouldn't bring in a player he isn't looking to start it is also easy to see the keepers sharing the job this year.
Either way, Rogers will have quality on the pitch and quality on the bench this coming season.
